Cannabis for Insomnia Treatments

Do you struggle with sleeping? Maybe you struggle with getting more than a few hours a night. While you might have a lot of different medications to help with this, and other sleep aids, another type of way to treat this is through alternative medicine, specifically cannabis, to treat your insomnia conditions.

What Insomnia Is

Insomnia is basically a disorder from sleeping that makes it hard for a person to not only fall asleep, but also stay asleep, and you might wake up so early that you’re unable to sleep.

Those who suffer from these insomnia conditions usually are tired, struggle to pay mind to what they’re doing, are unable to focus, and may be a bit irritable. This also impacts the way that your life is, lowering the performance that you have in school, work, and the like.

It also creates long-term problems including heart disease, or blood pressure problems.

Right now, about 40% of the population has some type of insomnia within their life, but about 15% of them deal with chronic insomnia to some degree. The causes of insomnia are stress, changes in work schedule especially night shifts and day and night shift changes, and also poor habits and diet.  Some of these are controlled by the person, but sometimes the underlying causes might be a bit different, and you might want to see a therapist to help with this condition.

The Current Treatments

So how do people deal with this?  Well, first and foremost, they discuss this with their doctor, to look at the conventional treatments.  Usually, the first suggestion is lifestyle changes, where they might ask you to go to bed earlier, have a regular sleep and workout schedule, and eat better.

Another type of treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy, to help with changing the way that you think, and you can work with someone to achieve the help that you need.

Some people may consider the use of sleep medicines to help as a temporary measure to boost your sleep. The problem with these treatments is that there are side effects, including anxiety, nausea, lowered or higher blood pressure, weight gain, and also nausea too.

Usually, if the changes don’t work, they prescribe the medicines, including valerian root, and melatonin to help with this.

Can cannabis Help

It sure can, as this is an alternative that some people are looking at.

Due to a study that was done, about 147 people were able to look at their sleep, and also look at how cannabis impacted them. About 79% of the people who had this reported better sleep after using cannabis.

For many people, it was more than that too, as it can help them with chronic pain and the like, and also helped with reducing the insomnia from this too. Most of the time, the study looked at using THC and CBD to help with this.

CBD was the one that was the best for these patients, as it does bind directly to the receptors, and also helps with feeling relaxed and calmed down. Those who had lowered THC levels, were able to reduce the insomnia that they had, and also get better sleep.

Through the combination of both, people could sleep, and were able to relax with this type of medicine. For a lot of people, this is something that they’ve turned to, especially when traditional medicine isn’t working. You can discuss this with your doctor, get the help that you need and start improving your life today through the use of cannabis, and the beneficial effects of this as well too.
