Why indica Strains Make you tired

Usually, people think sativa is an uplifting strain, but indica strains are a lot more sedating. But that isn’t the case, and indica is something that’s  ore uplifting for people. There are actually some factors that go into whether or not an indica strain will make you sleepy. This includes the myrcene within, but also the THC that’s within this too.

For those of us who don’t know, myrcene is basically a terpene that’s found in a lot of indica strains, especially the Kush and Afghan strains that are there. They’re naturally sedative, but this is one that’s also found in a lot of THC strains too.  Higher THC strains are very sedative.

Those indica strains that are from the Afghan area, or are from the Tibetan or Kush areas, do have a lot more CBD in this, and it can be sedative if they also have higher amounts. There are other terpenes that also can make differences too, including limonene, CBG, CBD, THCV and also alpha-terpinene, and limonene that can play a part in the effects of this. The differences in a person’s ECS also may play a role in whether or not a cultivar is going to be reactive in this case.

Genetics Play a Part

Whether you like it or not, your genetics actually do play an integral part in the ECS.

This also means that one person may react to cannabis in a very different manner than another person, even if you’re using the same strain and products that the other person is.

A person may break down the THC within this a lot faster or a lot slower.

Another may also have different concentrations within the receptors of our immune system and brain, so that the uptake of the CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids is faster, or eve slower than other users of medical cannabis.

Cannabinoid Content

There is certain levels of cannabinoid content that also play a part on whether or not a strain is going to make you tired.

Those that will make you sedated include the following:

  • High levels of THC

  • CBD in high levels

  • CBN, which is a byproduct from THC that ages, and it’s more sedative, but still new research must be done

The cannabinoids that will make you feel more uplifted and happy include:

  • Low dosages of THC which actually can stimulate a person

  • Lower levels of THC, as this can offer more stimulating results from this

  • High levels of CBG, as this can be a lot more energizing for people at hand

  • If there are lower dosages of THCV, you also will notice that it’s not as sedating. This is because of the anti-psychoactive effects, and it also blocks the ability of THC to bind to these receptors within the body. they can be psychoactive, but it’s more of an uplifting feeling, which counteracts the sedative effects that come with higher levels of THC.

Finally, the terpenes

Terpenes also are pretty important, as they can be stimulating or sedating.

A mixture of these can make a difference. If it’s myrcene, humulene, linalool, or beta-caryophyllene, you’re going to feel sedative.

Those that have higher levels of limonene, terpinolene, pinene, eucalyptol, and beta-caryophyllene, it’s going to be more energizing.

You should also be mindful of those that can be both.  You can mix both linalool for example, and limonene, and they can sometimes be more stimulating in a lot of cases. Pinene as well is more relaxing in some cases, stimulating in others, so be mindful of that.
